Drainage is an easy trade to enter and a hard one to verify. Every licence, insurance policy and accreditation we hold is listed below — with the registration numbers and the links to check them yourself.

Anyone can print "fully insured" on a van. What matters is whether you can check it, so this page exists to make that easy — particularly if you're a facilities manager, letting agent or procurement officer who needs evidence on file before instructing us.

What it is

A legal registration permitting us to transport waste — in our case the silt, sludge and debris removed from your drains. It's a legal requirement under the Environmental Protection Act, not an optional badge.

What it means for you

Waste removed from your property is transported and disposed of legally, at a licensed facility, with a duty-of-care transfer note if you need one. Under UK law you remain liable for waste produced at your property — so an unregistered contractor transfers their risk to you.

Public Liability Insurance

What it is

£5 million of cover for injury or damage to property arising from our work. Drainage involves excavation, high-pressure water and heavy plant near buildings and services — this is the cover that sits behind that.

What it means for you

If something goes wrong on your property, there's a policy behind it rather than a conversation. Most commercial clients require sight of the certificate before instructing — we can send it before we attend.

What it is

A third-party audit of health and safety management — risk assessments, method statements, training records, PPE, accident reporting and insurance. Assessed annually rather than self-declared.

What it means for you

For facilities managers and larger commercial clients, SafeContractor is frequently a condition of being added to an approved supplier list. It means our safety paperwork has already been checked by someone independent, so your onboarding is quicker.

NADC

What it is

The trade association for the UK drainage industry. Membership requires meeting standards on competence, insurance and working practice, and commits members to a code of conduct.

What it means for you

An industry body you can complain to that isn't us. It also means we're working to recognised sector standards for surveys, reporting and repair rather than making it up per job.

CHAS Accreditation

Contractors Health & Safety Assessment Scheme

What it is

A health and safety pre-qualification scheme widely used by local authorities, housing associations and construction clients as an entry requirement for their supply chains.

What it means for you

Relevant mainly for public sector and social housing work. If you're procuring on behalf of a council or housing association, CHAS is often the box that has to be ticked before anything else is discussed.

DBS

DBS Checked Engineers

Disclosure and Barring Service

What it is

Criminal record checks on engineers who attend properties. Standard practice where staff work in care homes, schools, or unaccompanied in domestic properties.

What it means for you

Relevant if you're a care home, school, letting agent, or a customer who'd rather know who's coming onto the property. Every engineer carries photo ID and arrives in a signwritten van and branded uniform.

Ask for the CBDU number and check it on the Environment Agency register. It takes thirty seconds, it's free, and you stay liable for your waste if they aren't registered.

Will they send the insurance certificate?

Not a claim on a website — the actual certificate, with the policy number and expiry date. A firm that hesitates is telling you something.

Do they quote before starting?

A fixed price agreed on site, in writing, before work begins. Open-ended hourly rates on an emergency call-out is where most drainage horror stories start.
